The welfare trade-off between grading stress and cannibalism risk requires careful management. High stocking density amplifies both cannibalism and stress responses. Welfare-focused juvenile barramundi management minimises size heterogeneity through frequent grading, maintains appropriate density, and monitors for injury indicators as welfare outcomes.
