Organic prawn standards provide welfare benefits primarily through reduced stocking density, prohibition of certain chemical treatments, and requirements for more natural conditions. Lower stocking density reduces chronic crowding stress and improves water quality. However, organic standards do not yet address sentience-related welfare concerns including slaughter methods.
