Welfare Considerations

Wildlife photography has enormous potential to build public connection with and concern for wild animals. However, photography that causes disturbance, disrupts breeding, or uses stressed captive animals causes welfare harm. Ethical wildlife photography that prioritises animal welfare over the perfect shot is both more ethical and ultimately more rewarding.

Never use baiting, calling, or playback at levels that cause distress
Research whether animals in photography workshops are genuinely free-living and unstressed
Do not share precise location data for sensitive species on social media
Choose to photograph ethically even when it means missing a shot
