Dairy goat farming is expanding rapidly, with intensification raising welfare questions similar to those facing dairy cattle production.
Dairy goat welfare has received much less attention than dairy cattle welfare despite similar issues around kid separation, confinement, and high production demands. Goats are naturally browsers with strong motivation to explore elevated terrain. Barren concrete housing fails to meet these needs. Better welfare standards, enrichment requirements, and outdoor access mandates would significantly improve goat welfare.
