Red foxes have adapted extensively to urban environments, but face distinctive welfare challenges in cities compared to rural populations.
Mange causes intense suffering in affected foxes, and treatment with homeopathic drops by the public has limited evidence of efficacy. Road mortality is largely unavoidable, but foxes in good body condition cope well with urban life. Culling urban foxes is generally ineffective as territories are quickly reoccupied.
