Anxiety disorders are among the most common and welfare-significant problems in companion dogs, affecting quality of life and the human-animal bond.
Dogs with anxiety disorders experience chronic negative emotional states that significantly reduce quality of life. The suffering of anxious dogs is often invisible to owners or attributed to disobedience. Evidence-based interventions including behaviour modification, environmental management, and where appropriate medication can dramatically improve welfare outcomes. Early intervention before anxiety becomes entrenched gives the best prognosis.
