Welfare Considerations

Poorly executed ringing by untrained individuals causes unnecessary harm and is illegal. The licensing system ensures standards are maintained.

What You Can Do

Report any ringed bird found dead or alive to the BTO ringing scheme
Support the BTO which administers bird ringing and uses data for conservation
Never attempt to catch or ring birds without appropriate training and a BTO licence
Record ring numbers to contribute to the longevity and migration tracking database
