Dogs have limited capacity to concentrate urine and cannot go extended periods without water without health consequences. Welfare failures related to water restriction are often inadvertent — owners locking dogs inside without access, outdoor water freezing, or bowls emptying between checks — rather than intentional. Providing multiple water points, monitoring intake, and checking access regularly prevents these avoidable welfare problems.
