Welfare Considerations

Untreated hyperthyroid cats experience a range of unpleasant symptoms: heart racing, GI upset, anxiety, muscle weakness, and progressive deterioration. Because the signs are sometimes attributed to normal ageing, the condition can go unrecognised and untreated. Early diagnosis through routine screening of older cats and appropriate treatment dramatically reduces suffering.
