Brachycephalic dogs live in chronic respiratory compromise — many cannot walk more than a few hundred metres without becoming severely breathless. The condition causes ongoing suffering that owners often normalise because it is so common in the breed. Selecting these breeds based on extreme conformations creates demand for knowingly unhealthy dogs.
