Most commercially sold hamster cages are far too small for hamster welfare.
Hamsters in small, barren cages cannot fulfil basic behavioural needs for extensive foraging, burrowing, and exercise. Stereotypic bar-biting and repetitive circling indicate chronic frustration. Large enclosures with deep bedding, exercise wheels, and enrichment objects dramatically improve hamster wellbeing.
