Beaver reintroductions are creating positive ecological outcomes but raise welfare questions.
Beavers translocated for reintroduction programmes experience handling stress. Animals removed from established territories and moved to new areas may struggle to establish themselves. However, successfully reintroduced beavers that establish territories show normal behaviours and good welfare. Managing conflict compassionately — through deterrents rather than lethal control — is a welfare priority.
