Welfare Considerations

Solitary ferrets in small cages with insufficient enrichment and exercise develop stress-related health problems and abnormal behaviours. Ferrets are high-energy, curious animals that need complex environments, social interaction, and extensive free time to express their full behavioural repertoire. Meeting their needs requires significantly more space and interaction than most commercial cages provide.

What You Can Do

Keep ferrets in pairs or small groups rather than alone
Provide minimum 4 hours free-roaming time in a safe, enriched area daily
Create tunnels, hammocks, and foraging opportunities in their living space
Research ferret health needs thoroughly before acquiring
