Wild Tiger Trade and Farming Welfare

Tiger farming for trade in parts undermines wild tiger conservation and causes severe individual welfare harm.

Key Facts

Welfare Considerations

Tigers in farms live in conditions profoundly unsuitable for animals with such wide-ranging, predatory natures. Cubs separated at birth experience acute distress and are denied maternal care and social learning. Adult tigers in barren concrete enclosures cannot express any natural behaviour. Each tiger in trade suffers individually while the trade undermines wild tiger survival. Ending tiger farming is simultaneously a welfare and conservation priority.
