Wild dogs are intensely social and their wellbeing depends on stable pack structure. Dispersing individuals crossing fragmented habitats face vehicle strikes and persecution. Disease can wipe out entire packs, causing mass deaths from respiratory distress and internal haemorrhage. Snare injuries are common and can prevent hunting.
