Track injuries include fractures, muscle tears, and cardiac events. Some injuries require euthanasia. Dogs kept in kennels between races have limited social interaction and exercise opportunities. The export of retired or unplaced greyhounds to countries without welfare protection is a significant concern. Many countries have banned or phased out greyhound racing on welfare grounds.
