Wild animals experience vast amounts of suffering from disease, predation, parasitism, and starvation, raising underexplored questions about our moral obligations.
Wild animal welfare is an emerging field recognising that our obligations to animals extend beyond those we directly control. Predation, parasitism, and starvation are widespread and cause significant suffering. Some interventions are possible and evidence-based (e.g. wildlife vaccination programmes). The field is careful to avoid naive interventionism while building towards evidence-based welfare improvements.
