Welfare Considerations

Lions in captive breeding facilities suffer severe welfare problems including chronic stress, overcrowding, and disease. Cubs separated from mothers at birth show lasting psychological harm. Canned hunting, where lions are killed in enclosed areas, causes fear and suffering and denies any natural escape behaviour. Wild lions killed by trophy hunters are often pride males, causing cubs to be killed by incoming males and pride collapse.
