Chronic pain conditions in dogs are frequently under-recognized and under-treated, causing prolonged welfare compromise.
Dogs with chronic pain from arthritis, spinal disease, or cancer frequently suffer in silence. Behavioral changes including reduced activity, reluctance to climb stairs, and changes in greeting behavior are often attributed to aging rather than treatable pain. Effective multimodal pain management substantially improves quality of life. Owner education in pain recognition is the critical first step.
