The resulting frustration, boredom, and physical discomfort causes high rates of stereotypic bar-biting and repetitive movements indicating chronic psychological suffering. Muscle weakness and joint problems develop from immobility. The scientific consensus that gestation crates cause significant animal suffering is robust.
