Welfare Considerations

Ocelots in fragmented landscapes must cross roads to establish territories and find mates, exposing them to vehicle collision risk. Small isolated populations face genetic bottlenecks that increase susceptibility to disease. Ocelots killed on roads die from traumatic injury, and survivors of non-fatal strikes may have internal injuries. Habitat connectivity infrastructure directly improves their welfare and population viability.
