Transparent reporting of welfare audit outcomes enables consumers and retailers to make informed welfare-positive choices.
Welfare certification schemes where audit results are not publicly available cannot drive consumer behavior that rewards welfare improvement. Farms with poor welfare can carry certification logos identical to those with excellent welfare. Transparency in welfare outcomes including lameness, mastitis, mortality, and behavioral indicators creates accountability and enables genuine consumer choice. Danish and Dutch transparency models demonstrate that publication drives improvement.
