Public access to evidence-based animal welfare information enables informed decisions by consumers, retailers, and policymakers.
Consumer welfare choices are limited by information availability. When production conditions are not disclosed and labeling is vague, consumers cannot make meaningful welfare decisions regardless of their values. Expanding access to accurate welfare information through labeling, certification transparency, and educational resources is itself a welfare intervention that enables market and political pressure for improvement.
