Welfare Considerations

Alpacas require careful handling training from an early age to minimise fear during shearing. Access to shade, wallows and cool water is critical in warm climates. Their digestive systems are sensitive; abrupt dietary changes cause enteritis and pain. Foot care and body condition scoring are essential husbandry tasks.
