Welfare Considerations

Guinea fowl are among the most poorly domesticated commercial poultry species and retain strong wild instincts. Intensive confinement causes acute and chronic stress. Piling behaviour triggered by any disturbance results in smothering deaths. Their naturally active foraging and social behaviour is incompatible with high-density barn systems. Outdoor access significantly reduces mortality from behavioural causes.
