Welfare Considerations

Mantises are among the more cognitively complex insects, showing spatial learning and predator recognition. Inappropriate humidity during moulting causes fatal ecdysis failure. Dehydration from inadequate water provision is a frequent welfare problem. The ethics of feeding live prey raises additional welfare questions about the prey animals involved.
