Pangolins are the world's most trafficked mammals. Their slow reproduction and vulnerability to poaching make population recovery extremely difficult without decisive action.
Pangolin trafficking causes suffering across the entire supply chain. Animals are collected, confined in sacks or containers, and transported long distances in cramped, stressful conditions. Pangolins stress easily and often die before reaching markets. Live animals in illegal markets experience extreme stress and frequently perish from shock. Pangolins killed for meat or medicine face slaughter without welfare consideration. Their low reproductive rate means population recovery from trafficking is slow even when protections are in place.
