Foie gras production involves force-feeding geese and ducks to enlarge their livers, a practice banned in many countries but still imported and sold in others.
Force-feeding causes physical discomfort, injury, and the severe liver disease that is the intended product. Birds cannot avoid the repeated handling and insertion of feeding tubes. The welfare harm is severe, documented, and caused by the production method itself rather than incidental. Restricting imports as well as domestic production is necessary to eliminate demand that drives the practice abroad.
