Wild Osprey UK Recovery

The osprey returned to breed in Scotland from 1954 after a century of extinction, and reintroduction programmes have now established populations across England and Wales.

Welfare Considerations

Osprey welfare during migration is challenged by human disturbance at nesting sites, illegal persecution in some countries and hazards from fishing lines and monofilament netting that can entangle birds. UK-breeding birds benefit from legal protection and public enthusiasm, but long-distance migrants face unregulated threats in wintering grounds.

Report osprey disturbance or nest interference to RSPB or police
Remove monofilament fishing line from lakes and rivers
