Welfare Considerations

Deer struck by vehicles at speed suffer traumatic injuries including fractures, internal haemorrhage and spinal injury. Many do not die immediately, suffering in pain at roadsides. Injured deer that escape to cover die slowly from injuries over hours to days. The predictable seasonal and diurnal patterns of collisions allow targeted interventions that would prevent large numbers of welfare incidents annually.
