Foxes have successfully colonised urban areas across the UK and Europe, creating both wildlife welfare concerns and human-wildlife conflict situations.
Urban foxes face significant welfare challenges: mange causes intense itching, hair loss, and eventual death; road traffic is a major killer; and urban food sources can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Culling not only fails to reduce population size but causes suffering without benefit. Mange treatment programmes and coexistence approaches are more humane and more effective.
