Feral cats face chronic welfare challenges: malnutrition, untreated injuries and disease, parasite burden, and the constant threat of persecution. Kittens born feral rarely become sociable enough for rehoming. Trap-neuter-return manages population growth without killing while improving individual welfare through neutering, vaccination, and caretaker monitoring. Managed colonies where individuals are known to caretakers allow welfare problems to be identified and addressed. This is a more effective and more humane approach than culling.
