Welfare Considerations

Dogs trained punitively show higher salivary cortisol, more stress behaviours during training, and worse long-term welfare outcomes. Positive reinforcement builds animals that engage willingly with training because it predicts good things. There is no welfare justification for punishment-based training in companion dogs.
