Welfare Considerations

Stray dogs experience some of the most severe welfare conditions of any domestic animal population: starvation, disease, injury from road traffic and human violence, parasitism, and reproductive stress. Vaccination against rabies and other diseases reduces suffering dramatically in accessible populations. CNVR programmes provide additional welfare benefits through reducing reproduction-associated stress and disease. Mass culling fails on every metric: it causes enormous suffering, is ineffective at population control, and is vigorously opposed by welfare and public health organisations globally.
