Senior cat enrichment requires rethinking what worked in younger years in light of physical and cognitive changes. A cat with arthritis who cannot reach a previously loved high perch has lost both exercise and a territory vantage point. The welfare solution is adaptive: lower access to valued locations through ramps, simplify environments for cognitively declining cats, introduce gentle interactive play that respects joint limitations, and provide more predictability in routine.
