Welfare Considerations

Their nocturnal schedule means owners who handle them during the day are disturbing resting animals. The combination of specific temperature requirements, exercise needs, and nocturnal activity make them poorly suited to typical home environments.

Provide a running wheel of at least 30cm diameter for nightly exercise
Handle hedgehogs in the evening when they are naturally active
