Fur-farmed animals are typically housed in wire-bottomed cages that prevent natural behaviour. Mink, as semi-aquatic predators, cannot access water for swimming. Foxes kept in cages cannot run or dig. Stereotypic pacing, self-mutilation, and aggression are widespread in all species. Slaughter methods including gassing and anal electrocution cause suffering. The systematic welfare violations in fur farming are sufficiently documented to have persuaded over 20 countries to impose bans.
