Welfare Considerations

Wild red wolves face year-round risk of lethal human persecution. Coyote hybridization reduces genetic integrity of wild animals. Captive wolves live in carefully managed facilities but face constraints on natural behavior. Every wild wolf death is catastrophic given the tiny population size.
