Welfare Considerations

As descendants of domesticated pigs, feral pigs have similar cognitive and emotional capacities to farmed pigs. This creates a challenging ethical situation where highly sentient animals must be managed lethally due to their invasive status. Species-specific fertility control agents are in development but not yet deployed at scale. In their native range in Eurasia, wild boar are managed sustainably.
