Welfare Considerations

Bird-building collisions cause acute traumatic injuries: head trauma, internal haemorrhage, and broken bones. Many birds die immediately; others suffer for hours or days before death. The scale is enormous — this is one of the largest sources of human-caused bird mortality. The solutions are largely known and implementable: bird-safe glass patterns, reduced night lighting during migration, and building design standards. The barrier is primarily awareness and commercial will.
