Force-feeding (gavage) causes severe physical suffering including throat lacerations, organ damage, and extreme discomfort. Beyond foie gras, commercial ducks suffer from overcrowding, ammonia burns from inadequate litter, deprivation of water for swimming, and painful beak trimming. Water access is a fundamental welfare need for all waterfowl.
