Welfare Considerations

Songbirds kept in standard small cages cannot fly adequately, causing muscle atrophy and bone weakness. Social species kept alone develop stereotypic behaviors. Wild-caught birds suffer from capture trauma, transport mortality, and never fully adjust to captivity. Even well-kept captive songbirds typically have shorter lifespans than wild counterparts due to inadequate space and exercise.
