Arctic foxes face a double welfare threat: habitat loss from climate change and intensive fur farming across Scandinavia.
Wild arctic foxes are experiencing climate-driven habitat compression as warming pushes their cold-adapted range northward. Farmed arctic foxes suffer some of the worst conditions in the fur industry: bred to be docile enough to handle but retaining all the wild behavioral needs they cannot express. Their extreme reactions to stressors, self-mutilation rates, and stereotypic behaviors are higher than in other farmed species.
