Companion birds need large enclosures allowing flight, species-appropriate social companions, mental stimulation, and varied diets. Single housing causes loneliness, boredom, and stress-related behaviors including feather destruction. Small cages prevent the flight that is central to bird physiology and psychology. Flight aviaries and paired housing are recommended minimum standards.
