Donkeys are vital working animals for hundreds of millions of the world's poorest people; their welfare is chronically inadequate across their range.
Working donkeys are fundamental to livelihoods in parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, yet they routinely suffer from overwork, wounds from poor harness fit, untreated disease, and malnutrition. The Chinese ejiao industry has created a global donkey hide trade that is decimating populations. Improving working donkey welfare improves the lives of both animals and the families who depend on them.
