China's animal welfare landscape is rapidly changing, driven by urban consumer preferences and international trade pressure. Companion animal welfare has improved significantly in major cities. Farm animal welfare remains largely unaddressed by law, while aquatic animal welfare is almost completely unregulated. International partnerships and trade standards are creating market-based pressure for improvement.
