Organic certification addresses some welfare concerns but not all; understanding what organic covers helps consumers make informed choices.
Organic certification provides meaningful welfare improvements over conventional systems through outdoor access requirements, lower stocking densities, and ban on routine antibiotics. However, organic does not guarantee all welfare needs are met — slaughter practices, painful procedures, and emotional welfare are not fully addressed. Organic combined with additional welfare certification provides stronger assurance than organic alone.
