BLM wild horse adoption provides homes for captured horses but outcomes vary enormously.
The Bureau of Land Management captures wild horses and offers them for adoption. Programs have placed thousands of horses in private homes, but outcomes vary from excellent to catastrophic. Adopters who receive horses without adequate preparation for gentling an undomesticated animal often cannot manage them. The BLM Adoption Incentive Program can incentivize inappropriate adoptions without adequate screening. Supporting mentorship programs for adopters improves post-adoption welfare outcomes significantly.
