Welfare Considerations

Pigs in barren environments spend much of their time performing redirected rooting, bar biting, and aggression toward pen mates. These behaviors are not inherent to pigs but are symptoms of an impoverished environment. Providing straw, rooting opportunities, and objects to manipulate dramatically reduces these welfare harms and produces healthier, less stressed animals.
