Mink Welfare in Fur Farming

Welfare Considerations

Farmed mink confined to tiny wire cages without water access develop severe stereotypic behaviors including repetitive circling, head swaying, and self-mutilation. Their frustration at inability to express natural semi-aquatic behaviors causes chronic psychological distress. The wire floors cause foot injuries. Gassing with carbon dioxide or monoxide causes distress before unconsciousness.
